Retro Razzamatazz Cushion

FINISHED

In my last post I showed this as a wip, it didn't take me long to finish the few rows I had to do, so I put it all together last night.
I was a little worried when I chose the bright colours, but I love it! Being a cushion pattern from the Sixties/Seventies, I couldn't resist using these colours. I knew it would find a place in our blue & white Family Room, & I'm not known for being a beige girl lol.
Here's the other side-

The pattern is from  Golden Hands Vol 4 , my set is fairly old, 1970 I think, so it may be in a different volume in other editions. I can't put a copy here due to Aus copyright, but after a search I've found the same pattern online, it's an American version,
http://yarn-ing.blogspot.com.au/2010/03/razzamatazz-vintage-pillow-pattern.html

It's the same pattern as mine, but with American terminology, so if you live on my side of the creek, you'll be using dc (sc in US terms), a 4mm crochet hook & I used 8ply (dk) yarn.
I made my stripes a little different, and I added another 2 rows of aqua at the end, as I wanted the aqua to accentuate. I ended up stuffing mine with fibrefill instead of using a pillow insert, & I pulled the cushion in tightly in the centre before I sewed on the buttons.
My stripes were 6 lemon, 4 aqua, 4 purple, 4 pink, 2 lemon, 6 aqua, 4 purple, 4 pink, 4 lemon, & 6 aqua (2 extra rows), but it would look equally as stunning in any colour combo you love.
Really lots of fun & easy to make, & a great stashbuster,
Jen

The Retro Pattern Hunt.

I love Bookfest!! Nothing stops me from going EVER! The boys have learnt not to get sick, not to ask for lifts, not to try to nail the front door shut, not to have any dramas, traumas or diva moments, on the day I go to Bookfest. They are amazed & shocked, as I push them aside with superwoman hulky strength, roaring at their feeble attempts to stop me walking out the door!!!! Needless to say I do love Bookfest, which by the way is run by Lifeline twice a year here at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
I have so many books already, more than I'll read in my lifetime I fear, so I now contain my search to old knitting & crochet patterns & any irresistible old craft books, if they happen to throw themselves in front of me.

My favourites are 60/70's crochet patterns, but of course tea cosy patterns will make me flip out as well, as do old bag patterns, well I could keep going on & on lol.

I'm knitting 2 new tea cosies as wips at the moment, but I keep getting drawn back to my "new" patterns.
I really want to do this retro cushion cover,

Granny Squares & Needlework
but I can't get this next cushion out of my head, so I have to crochet it. It's in my memories, I do believe one of my grandmothers had one just like it - not bright like this one, but lovely old vintage colours of green & cream. I vaguely remember it sitting on her lounge, along with an old ripple stitch throw.

I still have a bit to do, but I'll have it finished for the next blog....

Gathering Supplies

A few weeks ago, a rainy Sunday afternoon trip to Spotlight was in order. Whenever I go, it's usually on a mission to get what I want (plus more), but always as a bit of a rushed trip.
This day I spent the afternoon.
I strolled slowly up & down the aisles, for at least 2 hours, still on a mission to choose supplies for new projects, but without having to be anywhere or anyone, just for a while.
I came out happy & refreshed, still with some credit on my Xmas gift card, with a bag full of fun, & not one ball of yarn in sight!
I'll be bravely coming back here at the end of the year, to see how many projects from this page I've completed - look :-

Gingham for a chicken scratch tablecloth, after seeing one at a vintage fair last year, & wanting desperately to make one again.
Bling for a new Tea Cosy design - had to buy 2 packs.
Homespun & cottons for a stitchery & bag.
Huge bag of candy coloured buttons for little girl's Cardi, bracelets, hair things, & something else.
Materials for a very strange Tea Cosy

Blurry pins, it's been so long since I bought new pins!
Beautiful fairy butterflies .......any suggestions?
& some bees & bugs, everyone should have bees & bugs on hand in case of an emergency :-)
